Metlakatla: My Forever Home

"A Tribute to the Place That Raised Me, the People Who Shaped Me"?

Nestled in the Southeast Panhandle of Alaska, right at the entrance of the Inside Passage, lies a small yet mighty town—Metlakatla. It is more than a place on the map, more than a collection of houses and roads. It is a community bound by shared history, unwavering support, and deep familial ties. To me, it is home in every sense of the word.

In Metlakatla, the word "family" transcends blood relations. Some are kin by birth, others by the bond of friendship, but all share a connection that runs deeper than words. We celebrate together, we mourn together, and most importantly, we stand together. When joyous occasions arise, the town rejoices as one—every voice lifted, every heart engaged. And when tragedy strikes, sorrow is not carried alone. There is always a hand to hold, always a presence that reminds us that even in grief, we are never truly alone.

This togetherness is woven into the fabric of Metlakatla. It is found in the traditions passed down through generations, in the resilience of a people who have endured and thrived, and in the pride we take in our heritage. Whether through laughter or tears, the heartbeat of our town remains steady—one rhythm, one pulse, one community.

For all this and more, I am forever grateful. Metlakatla has been here for me, for my family, and for every soul who calls it home. The spirit of our town is unwavering, and no matter where life takes me, its embrace will always pull me back.

Thank you, Metlakatla, for being the heart and soul of my journey.
