“Honoring the Heroes Who Stand Ready for Us Every Day”
Today, we pause to recognize and give thanks to the brave men and women who serve on the front lines of our community — our first responders.
To the Metlakatla Volunteer Fire Department, under the leadership of Chief Desmond, thank you for your tireless service. Whether it’s fighting fires, responding to medical emergencies, or standing by in moments of crisis, your commitment to keeping our families safe does not go unnoticed. You give your time, your energy, and your heart — and our community is stronger because of it.
To the dedicated team at the Annette Island Service Unit, including our doctors, nurses, support staff, and all who care for our health — thank you. Your work often goes unseen, but your impact is felt by every person you’ve helped, comforted, or healed. In sickness and in health, you stand with us, and we are deeply grateful.
To the Metlakatla Police Department, led by Chief Janes, thank you for protecting our people and our peace. Your job is not an easy one, but it is vital. You walk a path of service with integrity and courage, and we thank you for all you do to uphold the safety and well-being of our community.
These individuals are more than just responders — they are neighbors, friends, and family who have chosen a life of service for the betterment of all of us. Let’s take a moment today to say thank you — for the sacrifices they make, for the strength they show, and for the deep love they have for Metlakatla.
From all of us here at My Alaska Blog, and from the hearts of those you serve: Thank you. You make Metlakatla a safer, healthier, and better place to call home.
